These bgan terminals are small and lightweight. Can be packed in a laptop bag, the bgan system works today almost anywhere

(see coverage here).

When you need to access the internet, or need to make a phone call, you only have to open your bag, take out the little bgan modem, point it towards the satellite, plug in a little phonehandset (any regular tel handset from Radio Shack will work) and you are now able to call anywhere in the world with same airtime rate, right now only $1,34 / min.

Compare this airtime rate to the roaming on your cellphone. cellphone roaming is most often around $3.00 /  minute but with this bgan you pay only $1,34 all the time, no roaming.

There are a few different Bgan terminals available on the market today from a few manufacturers. The most known are Thrane and Nera, both made in Scandinavia

We have been testing and using the Thrane 300, 500 and 700 explorer series Bgans (see pictures and more info here) and seen these Thrane terminals are performing very well and they have advantages that Nera does not have.

Which unit do YOU need?

Thrane Explorer 300     We can put it this way, if you want a bgan, a satellite internet unit, but you are never going to use a telefax with it, then you might want to choose the Thrane Explorer 300. (see picture and more info here) We sell the Thrane Explorer 300 for only $2,300.

On this Explorer 300 bgan unit you can plug in a simple phone handset and make and receive global satellite phonecalls and you can browse the web or access your email server when you plug in your laptop

Thrane Explorer 500     This is the next unit up in the Thrane bgan family. I would say, this is the unit that most folks wants to buy. It really has all you need for a private person. It has all features from the 300 model, but this has also built in fax port etc. So if you plug in a regular telefax machine, you can both send and receive telefaxes globally. (see picture and more info here). 

Ofcourse you can do phonecalls also, on the other port you plugged in the normal RJ-11 handset from eg Radio Shack. If you plug in a cordless telephone, you have a small portable wireless handset, that you now can call and receive calls on, anywhere in the world. And you still got the internet access from this unit with a laptop connected to it.

If you laptop is bluetooth, you don't even have to PLUG IT IN, it will detect your laptop and you have WIRELESS internet from your laptop, anywhere in the world!

Then there are also the more advanced Thrane Explorer 700. I will not mention here anything about that model. We sell this too, but it is designed for corporations that wants to set up streaming video, servers, wireless access in and out, the whole nine yards you know, it is mainly more for people that wants to run a whole company in the desert. You also need a monthly subscription plan.

What we do is to set you up with an account. You will have access to our online billing where you will see your usage and costs.

The monthly cost is $52.73 / month. As you can see this is even less than a cellphone plan. When you make a phonecall, you will be charged $1.34 / min 

Compare this price if you call from a hotelroom somewhere in the world, as you know they overcharge you for that call on your room bill. Not mentioning the cellphone roaming in Asia or Europe or USA with a European gsm phone.

When you use the internet on these bgan terminals it is billed and calculated in bits and bytes. This means. The price is $9.16 / MB. So for ex,  you send around 200 emails and you pay around $9 - $10. Or you send a 1MB jpeg photo and this $9.16 price must be divided by 100 so you come down to only 9 cents for a large photo, not bad?
